To The North is a Pop-Up Community event that was held for the first time in 2021.
Driven by the desire to give back to the community it is a not for profit event.
Lucy Baker, owner of St Albi Bar + Eatery, creator of To The North
felt the desire and need to turn Albert Rd in to a mecca of colour and engagement in a positive way.

We closed Albert Rd and with the support of Glenorchy City Council, applied for a grant, under the Showcase Moonah banner, a placemaking initiative.
As this event was such a success, with community still enquiring when this will happen again,
the To The North crew felt the need and want to do it all over again!

In 2021 we had over 45 stall holders, looking at last years To The North foot print we expanded - and in 2022 we had over 70 Stall Holders.
Ranging from Arts + Crafts, clothing, pre loved clothing, fresh Tasmanian produce and food vans of all varieties!
Tom Deams + Joel Gajda, two local artists created a huge graffiti canvas and paint for the entirety of the market.
We had a ‘Build Your Own Creative Home’ a kids lego play space brought to you by Creative Homes Hobart (our major sponsor of the 2022 event)
for kids to enjoy!

The overwhelming support we saw from Hobart’s busking community, showcased some of our great talent.
We strongly believe in community + connection - we witnessed Welcome to Country performed by NITA Education (Craig Everett), the Taiko Drummers filled the street with noise, Tamas from Roaming Trees engaged in a story telling like you had never heard before, Albert Rd joined together in song - headed by Kick Starts Art + Group Noise Rock Choir. The Latin Spring Dancers collaborated with the South Side Steppers for our closing ceremony where we invited you to dance in the street - oh and did I mentioned there was Boot Scooting?

In 2022 we built on our knowledge of the previous year and had 70 stall holders, doubling the amount of attendees of the event reaching approx. 8000 people.

This aids in raising the profile of The Northern Suburbs and has fast become a staple on the cultural and market calendar.

The dedication from community volunteers brought To The North together. So whether you were participating as a stall holder, performer, volunteer or attended this event as a spectator and shopper you were apart of contributing to this amazing movement!

Albert Rd will again transform into a place to dance, sing and come together in the most positive way.
The street will feel electric and something that will be so special to be apart of.

RSPCA will offer ‘Puppy Parking’ on the Station St lawn so no one is left out.

Mark 04.06.23 in your diary for one of the greatest days of our year. This is a free event and everyone is invited.

We believe in this event for our community and would love you to be apart of it.
We feel blessed that we have been given the opportunity again to create something very inclusive + special.

So come along on Sunday 4th June 2023 and see what we can create when everyone comes together.

This event is made possible by St Albi Bar + Eatery + Glenorchy City Council + Creative Homes Hobart + Snap Printing Hobart.
We would like to thank our neighbours for letting us use your space + being so supportive of To The North.

Thank you to our sponsors for believing in To The North + our community.

All our love,
The TTN Crew X
